She Left Yesterday She left yesterday, bold strong and on her way With a rucksack on her back High heeling she got the knack And where she goes, no one ones Into the night a breeze that is cold There goes my love, slipping away God knows, I need to pray And what she does only time will tell A life of hope and dreams as deep as a well And when I’m old and when I’m cold Will she come back at all? Paint your way, design your day Make your colours shine come what may Lift your head, hold it high So I can see it in the sky Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

My Guitar 04:27
My Guitar I pick you up and I put you down Fit you in when I’m feeling down Bend a note, clear my throat You’re my guitar Let’s play it sweet let’s play it sad Grunge it up and make it bad Feed my soul, let it roll You’re my guitar For it’s not for fame and it’s not for fortune That I sing our song and pluck our tune It’s just a chance to share a story Then find our way back home to you And when I’m home from the road Forgive me darling if I’m feeling cold The music sleeps, I need you more Than my guitar But when the time bell calls me in Before the payroll sucks me in Six silver strings keep ringing in My guitar Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

Our Town 04:01
Our Town Well we came to work the land Worked it hard and worked it down To feed the bairns in your arms near our town Watched the seasons come and go Watched the livestock's growing old The fields of green the hills around, our town And things are changing, there’s troubles all around Seasons come without warning, don’t let it get us down The market square is full of folk, young and old are pulling jokes The pubs are full they stagger out, in our town In the early morning mist the train it takes them beyond Liss City lights their dreaming of our town Well listen Peter's ringing out and there’s singing in the air William's on his horse in our town And things are changing, there’s troubles all around Seasons come without warning, don’t let it get us down Well the market now is gone and the corporate suits in town People come, people go in our town But there’s always a hill that I’ll want to take you to We can lie and watch this world from our town Come lie down dear watch this world, from our town And things are changing, there’s troubles all around Seasons come without warning, don’t let it get us down Words & Music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

Seasons 03:48
Seasons I’m walking across stubble, it’s wet on the ground Another year's over and there’s no one around A crow cries above me, a shot from a far The northeast wind blows howling like a car I’m thinking how I miss you, I’m thinking how you look A black dog bounces forward then into the brook Up over the meadow chasing it’s tail The old man is tiring and he’s looking pale The seasons they come, ah the seasons they go The vigour of youth the wisdom of old The seasons they come and the seasons they go The rotation of time a story is told The passing of strangers I see a lady at rest She’s feeding her baby with a snow white breast No time for talking I‘m feeling a chill My journey’s not over no time to kill I ‘m thinking I’ll be home soon I'm thinking how you are The rain clouds starts falling and the sky’s getting dark Storm clouds come quickly I look for some shade A jogger bounces passed me then into the glade Words & Music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

All I could Say On a fine spring day, she ran to me to say she had to go away Had enough of being taxed, needed to relax, seek out another way I begged her to stay but she had her own way and that night I slept alone. She headed to the west, thought it was the best never picked up the phone May God go with you, take care my love, was all I could say A promised land, I hope you find was all I could say California was her dream and a biker she was mean and motored all the way. Sun bleached hair, little did she care, she was never clean. My life was pretty frantic and I new she meant it when a postcard came my way, saying I’m missing you my love, though the suns above need you here today Some people say it’s here, some people say it’s there wherever you want to go, you gotta find your patch, give it a scratch live with what you know. So on that little note missed my boat and stayed in England green found a new way to make things pay and wrote the next day Words & Music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

Hoping for Some Light On the streets of Camberwell, there’s a drunk who’s not too well As he staggers to the green he thinks he’s being seen Then he punches at the air, says by Christ this is not fair It’s a hard life, it’s a hard life Then off the 36 jumps a mother with three kids As they're pulling at her coat she carries a heavy load Her face is awful lean, she’s probably just nineteen It’s a hard life, it’s a hard life It’s a hard life, to bear The dog man opted out, many years ago Destined to be great, he’d rather no one knows A black-end face and his shorts are torn A sailor all forlorn It’s a hard life, it’s a hard life To Chapel Grove they flock Obedient to the word The Reverend he is waiting, wanting to be heard The organ’s loud and they're standing proud He tell’s them what he’s learned It’s a hard life, it’s a hard life It’s a hard life, to bear And a long road, a long road Trying to get it right It’s a long road, a long road Hoping for some light Hoping for some light Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

Singing like her Mama The microphone is waiting a girl is feeling scared The Mariners are drinking and nobody cares But she don’t like no hip hop scratching on a desk Gives it to them clean and turns many heads Cause she’s singing, she’s singing like her mama In a way they used to do and she’s Swinging, swinging like her mama In a way, that looks so cool, in a way you want it to She’s been raised on vinyl, round and round she’s been Picking up the crackles where her mothers been Put’s herself on myspace gonna make it big The folky girl from Surrey that everyone digs The bookies got a winner the room is steaming up Young and old are drinking and tapping their foot Up and down the country all are gonna see The folky girl from Bagshot with beads running free A boy is in the corner films her every move Spell bound and broken he’s digging the groove Folkies scratch their beards a finger in the ear Remembering Sandy Denny and drown in their beer Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

The Painters Lament I was from the South and she was from the North We met in a launderette spinning round and round Trying to be grown up’s and laughing at this game A premonition you’d call it, well things would not be the same To the sound of Marvin Gaye, I remember dancing in May She was wearing an emerald dress, hand sewn that caressed her breast. Moving to the beat, so light on her feet Little did I know, this jewel I would not keep ‘Cause I was destined to be great a painter with a cause To tell the nation how it is a poet from these shores A stubborn will a selfish choice is what I thought was needed To sacrifice the one you love for something you believe in From the month of July in a stony seaside town At night we'd work in the Marine Café then make love during the day To the sound of the ebbing tide and soaring cries of gulls Our life felt so complete and talked of wedding bells The following year in April a child shared our arms The bonniest boy you’d ever seen sleeping so serene But at this point our troubles came quarrels and tempers flew She wanted more from me, like a fool I never knew The last I heard she married a grey haired city gent With a detached home in Worlplesdon and I was paying rent From Euston road to Glasgow City, I’m not want to lament But son I’m telling you now, learn to use your diligence My brushes have dried up, all colours have faded away But a memory still exists of dancing to Marvin Gaye Moving to the beat, so light on her feet If only I had realised the jewel I would not keep Words & Music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

Drifting 03:50
Drifting I’m drifting, drifting on a boat I’m drifting, trying to stay afloat The wind is pushing me forwards The tide is pulling me back I’m drifting, drifting on a boat I’m trying to get my way back Trying to get my way back to you Come closer, closer to my boat Come closer, keep me afloat Take this helm of mine, Help me keep it on line Come closer, to my boat 'Cause I’m trying to get my way back Trying to get my way back to you On the horizon, I see a light On the horizon shining bright Storm clouds steal my view As I start to think of you On the horizon, I see a light 'Cause I’m trying to get my way back Trying to get my way back to you 'Cause I’m trying to get my way back Trying to get my way back to you Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

Louise 03:30
Louise Louise, you remind me of my daughter Louise, you can’t be much older You’re telling me what to do girl Well got the whole world on your shoulders Louise, you’ve got me in a spin Louise you know I’m never gonna win You want the work done yesterday But honey Sundays, I’m just not in Louise you’ve got corporation plans Louise, you’ve conquered many lands I’m trying to keep up but I’d Rather build castles in the sand 'Cause I want to be a free man Do it in my own time and with my own hands Louise, when you gonna stop Louise, your motors running hot You’re up and down the hogs back With a burden on your back You’re up and down the hogs back With a burden on your back Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

If words should fail me If words should fail me in this last hour All my love all my passion I will show you now Come closer to me let me hear you speak Forgive me darling for I’m just too weak to speak, anymore If time’s against me the clock ticks on Then spend it with me before the light is gone The sunset's glowing all around your hair Your silhouettes showing that you really care You really, really care If I could change what I know now All my hurt all my pain needn’t be in vain Beauty is fleeting like a fashion parade Snapshots capturing, frame by frame, frame by frame If words should fail me in this last hour All my love all my passion I will show you now Words & Music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

Brothers of the Sea The Acasta was her name and riveted on the Clyde A handsome class destroyer with the Ardent at her side The orders came to leave the land beyond the Narvik hills Fifteen hundred men rolled and pitched and drilled Through the sea Glorious was heavily laden the jewel of the fleet, more men, machines and hurricanes that you would wanna meet, but the orders came to break away and steam their way back home, a foolish choice you might have thought cause it left her all alone In the sea Then out of a bright June day as elegant as a swan The fiercest demon of the sea was known by everyone The Scharnhorst wasted little time, hit the Glorious hard No match for a cargo ship with a hole torn deep inside In rushed the sea, and they were singing We’re going down boy’s, we’re going down To the depths of the deep blue sea Remember, they will remember For we are all brothers of the sea Acasta and the Ardent filled the air with smoke A pair of gallant warriors everyone did note No Gladiator was in the air nor a Swordfish in the sky To warn the brothers of the sea that many men could die In the sea Like two little sisters they zig zagged through the swell Tried to protect the mother ship and the Devonshire as well The Ardent disappeared and the Acasta went in hard Fired at the Scharnhorst and hurt her deep inside Raged the sea Well little Tommy Thompson was down below that day Firing up the Acasta no chance to get away He said goodbye to his Nancy and namesake little boy As the Scharnhorst opened up and hit her like a toy In rushed the sea and he was singing We’re going down boys we’re going down To the depths of the deep blue sea Remember, she will remember For you are my love Nancy We’re going down boys we’re going down To the depths of the deep blue sea Remember, they will remember For we are all brothers of the sea For we are all brothers, of the sea Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

When you’re down on your luck Life is still worth living When you’re not in love Life is still forgiving When you’re down on you’re luck Take a walk in the park Look above at the singing Lark Roses bloom in front of you The sky is bright a Cerulean blue People may say, poor old you As they walk arm in arm as lovers do But you can drive down any road Making tracks with no fixed abode Don’t be afraid of making a date Keep it cool with no mistakes Dancing to a jitter bug As they whisper in your ear, well I’m not in love And in the twilight hours when you’re feeling lonely And the night is drawing in The wise old owl is calling You’ll find love, you will find love, again One night not too late You see someone you wish to embrace They turn to you in a fearful state and say Sorry love, there’s been a big mistake Words & music Jonathan Thompson Meadow Music 2013

about

On this recording Jonathan Thompson has taken full advantage of his band who provide a strong punchy rythmn section allowing him to add lyrical and tasteful electric lead guitar passages that have a strong rootsy feel adding a further voice to the tunes.

The song 'Singing Like her Mama’ was inspired by observing a young songwriter at a gig who had an uncanny voice not to dissimilar to Sandy Denny - where did she get that from? and the title track ‘Our Town’ is an affectionate profile of Jonathan's home town jammed out with his musical mates to a foot stomping rockabilly tempo.

The album culminates with the song ‘Brothers of the Sea’ which is a moving tribute to1,531 men who lost their lives in a World War II naval blunder including Jonathan’s grandfather Tommy Thompson.

‘Our Town’ follows from Jonathan’s successful debut album ‘Songs of Rapture’ released in January 2008. His trusty Lowden guitar drives the songs forward which paint dream like images of a spiritual hope in contrast with more gritty social and political issues.
